작품설명: 고재(오래된 나무)에 화각기법(인두로 나무를 태워 각인)을 이용해 열을 가해 재질을 변화시키고 유화 채색을 하여 평면을 입체화 시켰으며, 목재의 성질을 활용해 자유로운 선을 구성하였다.
죽어도 사라지지 않고 형태를 보존하는 강한 생명력을 가진 나무를 어머니의 모성처럼 표현하고자 하였고, 가이아의 몸에 새겨진 생명의 눈은 나무와 어머니를 연결하는 매개체로서 새로운 생명을 향한 희망을 의미한다. 가이아를 소재로한 작품의 가장 큰 특징으로 어머니를 상징하는 가이아의 몸에는 팔이 없으며, 어머니로 상징된 누드 가이아는 늘 젊고 풍만한 자태로 보여진다. 팔이 없는 것은 자식을 위한 희생, 사랑, 헌신을 의미하며 풍만한 가이아로 표현된 젊은 어머니는 열정과 풍성함으로 지칠 줄 모르는 자식을 사랑하는 마음을 은유하였다.

This work used the burning technique (blossom burning with an iron) to change the material by heating it, and to make the plane three-dimensional by painting it with oil painting, and to make a free line by utilizing the properties of wood.
He wanted to express a tree with a strong vitality that preserved its form without disappearing even if it died, like a mother's maternal instinct, and the eyes of life engraved on Gaia's body signify hope for a new life as a medium for connecting the tree with the mother. The biggest feature of this work is that Gaia's body, which symbolizes mother, has no arms, and the nude Gaia is always seen as a young, voluminous figure. The absence of arms means sacrifice, love and devotion for the child, and the young mother, expressed in voluptuous Gaia, metaphorized tireless love for her child with passion and profusion.
